The Sundernagar-Kiratpur four-lane highway has been inaugurated, reducing travel time from Delhi to Manali to just ten hours. The project, led by the National Highway Authority of India, offers a faster and smoother route for travellers seeking the tranquil beauty of Manali’s snow-clad landscapes. The improved road conditions and better signage make navigation through the picturesque valleys and winding roads of Himachal Pradesh a breeze. The highway is also lined with rest stops and eateries, providing ample opportunities for travellers to rest and refuel before continuing their journey. This new highway has made Manali an attractive destination for those seeking to escape the city life.
Covering a distance of approximately 531 km, the journey commences from Delhi and traverses through NH 44, passing key landmarks such as Murthal, Panipat, Karnal, Kurukshetra, and Ambala, before reaching Kiratpur. From there, the highway leads to Sundernagar, Ner Chowk, Mandi, Bhuntar, and culminates in the picturesque destination of Kullu-Manali.
The stretch from Kiratpur to Ner Chowk is particularly noteworthy, as it marks the entry into the rugged terrain of the Himalayas. To ensure a seamless passage through this challenging landscape, numerous tunnels have been meticulously constructed along this route. The highlight of the journey is undoubtedly the newly established four-lane highway from Kiratpur to Harabagh in Sundernagar, which significantly expedites the travel time, especially from Ner Chowk onwards.
In line with these infrastructure developments, luxury bus operators plying routes between Manali, Delhi, Chandigarh, and Haridwar have been directed to utilize the Sundernagar-Kiratpur four-lane highway.
